A word about the venue……….
Thanks to the great generosity of Mrs. Rosalind Ingrams, we are fortunate to be able to hold the fête in Garsington Manor Gardens. These are magical – part-terraced with a parterre of low box-trimmed beds, a formal pond, yew hedges, statuary, and wonderful views across to Wittenham Clumps and the Chilterns. Made famous by the operas staged here by the Ingrams, the gardens were largely created by Ottoline Morrell between 1915 and 1928, during which time Garsington Manor became a haven for artists and writers: D.H.Lawrence helped with the planting of yews and irises and conscientious objectors from the Bloomsbury Group worked here during the First World War as agricultural labourers. The magic continues: in September 2004 the new head gardener (appropriately named Hannah Gardener) joined the team. Hannah trained at Kew and has worked at Sissinghurst and Great Dixeter in Kent. We hope you enjoy the fête as much as the gardens!
