Alexandra Hewitt, Director of Music |
Music and Choir
Music plays an important part in our worship at St Mary’s. The team is led by Alexandra Hewitt who rehearses the combined choir and music group and coaches the younger recruits. Junior members (up to age 18) may follow the RSCM ‘Voice for Life’ medal scheme. We sing a wide variety of traditional and modern hymns and worship songs. An anthem is usually sung each Sunday during communion. Rehearsals are generally immediately before the service, which enables us to operate a flexible membership where people can join in on a regular or an occasional basis. A number of singers, including members of the Junior Choir, also play orchestral instruments to accompany the more modern music. New singers are always welcome, especially basses and children.
Servers
Servers assist at our main services in helping to prepare the church for worship. They carry the candles and the cross in procession and they prepare the altar for communion.
