Small Groups

Small groups meet in homes on various nights of the week for friendship, pastoral care, Bible study, spiritual growth and witness. Quite often they have grown as a follow-on from the Alpha course. Men’s Group

The men of the parish meet regularly on the fourth Thursday of the month for drinks at the Sun pub in the village.

There is a regular Men’s Breakfast which takes place in the United Reform church hall from 8.30 to 10.00am when a full English breakfast is served and a visiting speaker gives a talk. Recent speakers have included our local GP, Dr. David Copping who spoke on the subject of men’s health. David Thomas gave us a presentation on his fund raising marathon run across Namibia raising money for the Prince’s Trust. Christopher Sprent gave an illustrated talk on his career in the RAF.

There is usually a weekend away in the autumn. For more details, contact Ricky Cherry on 0771 528 5901.

Women’s Group

We are a group for women of working age which meets regularly on the first Friday of the month at 8 pm for socialising and mutual support. The venue alternates between the Sun pub and people's homes.  The next meeting is on Friday 5th March at the Manor House at 8 pm. Please bring along an item that means something to you. Please also bring wine and nibbles.

Also a reminder of the quiet day on 17th April at Stanton House being led by Christine Bainbridge. There are still a couple of spaces left. Please contact Lucy Betts if you would like to go, tel. 01865 875436.

St. Mary’s Guild

St. Mary’s Guild was formed 25 years ago and the anniversary will be celebrated in July with a special tea party. Mary John and Christine Jackson asked the then vicar, Rev. Michael Farthing if a group could be formed within the church for ladies to meet monthly,~have a speaker and relax afterwards over a cup of tea — the speakers to be varied, but within the year a few must have a Christian element. So the group was formed in 1984 with Betty Jaggers as the first President. Meetings take place on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 2.OOpm in the URC Hall and on the 1st Wednesday in May we hold a corporate communion in church at 9.3Oam. Each year in May we have an outing, a tea party at Christmas and a lunch before our AGM in September. At present we have 39 members and new members are always welcome — contacts are Wendy Rogers, the President on 01865 873857.
